When we think of leadership, we often conjure up images of historic occasions such as George Washington crossing the Delaware or Martin Luther King Jr. speaking on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. But what makes a successful leader in a less dramatic setting, such as the workplace?

1. Interaction

A successful workplace leader is a good communicator who clearly lays forth expectations. Not only that, but they encourage strong communication within their workforce. A strong leader goes above and above to bring their team together around workplace concerns by utilizing chats, emails, and texting groups. They don't just provide networking technologies; they also teach people how to interact effectively.

2. Compassion

A good workplace leader cares about their people and displays it. Remembering information about their lives and asking follow-up inquiries (in a non-intrusive manner) about wives, children, parents, and life events demonstrates that they care about their employees and see them as more than just human chattel.

3. Accessibility

A excellent leader is someone who others are not hesitant to approach when they have a question or a concern. The office door must occasionally be closed. But if it doesn't, leave it open and provide a dish of sweets or coffee for visiting personnel. They should not fear your office as they did the principal's; instead, they should recognize it as a safe haven where they may seek assistance.

4. Generosity

Everyone admires a boss that goes out of his or her way for the staff, whether it's renting a food cart for lunch or taking everyone to the movies. Bosses and managers that use prizes to inspire their teams rather than threats and penalties will find themselves with a lot more successful workforce.

5. passion

As squad captain, you'll discover that leading by example is the greatest way to proceed. If you are invested in your company's purpose or care about what it accomplishes, your excitement will be contagious and spread to your employees. To be a cutting-edge player in your profession, read up on your field on a regular basis, network at events, and attend conferences.

6. Stability

Nobody wants a tyrant as a boss, but neither do they want a pushover. A good leader must be forceful and steadfast but also knowing when to put their foot down in a courteous manner, whether it's breaking up a water-cooler party or discussing mismanaged time with an employee. Clarify your beliefs and norms, and keep to them—though, as previously stated, know when to bend the rules for exceptional situations.
