10 Ways to Create Engaging Social Media Posts

Social media is an excellent tool for content marketing, but there are some ground rules to follow. Check out these ten tips for effective posting that generates engagement.

1. Make good use of images.

The visual material is what will entice folks to stop scrolling through their feed and check out your post. Use stock photos from a free source like Pixabay or Unsplash if you don't have an image directly relevant to your business.

2. Make good copy.

While the image causes them to pause, the words cause them to click. Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as suitable spacing.

3. Avoid becoming self-centered.

Don't always promote your company and products directly. Post on issues relevant to your sector or repost pieces from others to increase your credibility and engagement with a larger audience.

4. Make use of hashtags.

If you don't use hashtags, your post may as well be invisible on the bulk of social networking platforms. Hashtags notify users what category your post belongs in and increase engagement from folks looking to see what's fresh in that topic.

5. Be succinct.

Don't make your posts overly long, or your readers will tire of them and move on. Keep your sentences brief and use synonyms for lengthier words. Keep in mind that your audience is easily sidetracked.

6. Post at critical junctures.

This varies depending on the social media platform, but your post will reach a big number of people. You may use Google to find out what days and times are optimal for the social media platforms you use.

7. Involve the audience.

Include engaging questions in your post to generate conversation and response. If others are commenting on the thread below your words, you know your post was successful.

8. Be tenacious.

It is not excessive to post, post, and post again in today's socially connected world. People may need to see anything at least a dozen times before clicking on it, so don't give up and keep trying.

9. Think about the benefits and drawbacks of auto-posting.

You may believe that auto-posting saves time and energy, but an organic effort motivated by the inspiration of the moment may produce superior results.

10. Keep the audience in mind.

Different social networking platforms cater to different types of users, so while you might be OK posting photographs of your weekend on Instagram, doing so on LinkedIn could backfire.
